NOCTURNAL EMISSIONS – DUTY EXPERIMENT (CD by Soleilmoon Recordings)
Long time experimental band presents an ‘archive CD’ .Don’t get confused with the tape of the same title, because that is only partly on this CD (around 15
minutes. ..!) .The rest (over 1 hour) is previously unreleased stuff from the
period 1980-1984. As far as I can tell it is more or less in chronological
order. Starting out with many short noise oriented pieces (in similar vein to
their first LP’s ‘Fruiting Body’ and ‘Tissue Of Lies’) , going to more rhythm
oriented pieces. In both their first, more industrial, phase to their rhythm
side (showing they were too early with their rough edged forms of dance music)
the NE show they were their times way ahead.

UNITONE HIFI -WICKEDNESS INCREASED (CD by Incoming!)
First CD by one band on that great label who brought us two excellent dub
compilations: Serenity Dub 1 and 2. Those two melted neo-dub with more classical
forms of reggae. One of the bands, the US based sound system, Unitone Hifi now
presents a full length of more classical dub and reggae music. I must admit that
I am not a great fan of this of music, but I found my foots tapping along with
some of the sunny rhythms. Don’t ask me to comment on the innovative character
of this music, but I don’t know much about it. But on a sunny day like this I
like to play this kind of slow music.

AUROBINDO -INVOLUTION (CD by Ash International)
What will happen if two guys from the (not so-) house scene will collaborate on
a joint project? Take one guy from Seefeel and put him in a studio with Locust
and the outcome will not be dance music. The 12 tracks on this CD are rather
short, more sketch like drones, sometimes interfering with voices and sounds.
There is no house beat anywhere. ..As experimental music it is quite o.k. but
not excellent. As for house musicians going into new directions, this is
actually very good. ..

HYWARE -HYPER (7″ by Lab Records)
Excellent packaging, hand stamped sturdy envelops, on this 7″ .The b-side is
recorded at De Melkweg in Amsterdam (where these boys hail from) and it is
abrasive noise music, similar to Merzbow. Side A is even more noisier with
feedback going through the whole side. The pressing plant had troubles mastering
this. Apparently this was made by destroying records. Noise music at the most
extreme level.

COIL VS ELPH -WORSHIP THE GLITCH (CD bv World Serpent)
I can say I never cared so much about Coil’s work. Some of it I liked, but when
there were songs, I wasn’t so much interested. Coil turned to dance music a few
years ago, and now that the dreaded a-word is in hype, they turn to that. The
16, rather short, tracks are quite austere in sound. In general each track
consist of a slowly changing sound. It’s all quite minimal. In some way I am
reminded of Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works 2, in a way that it is an
unsettling kind of ambient, austere and yet quite full. A very good work.
GONZO CIRCUS 16 + CD ‘MIND THE GAP VOLUME 3’ (Magazine and CD by Gonzo Circus)
The magazine part will be the most uninteresting part if you don’t read any of
the Dutch language. Featured are Coil, Fugazi, Carl Craig, Howie B., Nerve,
Dream Warriors. A wide variety of people in an even more wide variety of styles
Last year Gonzo Circus organized a two day festival, one day in Amsterdam and
the other day in Belgium. With the issues back then, they already released Mind
The Gap Vol.1 and 2, and, logically here is the bunch of live recordings. Xingu
Hill and Starfish Pool were recorded earlier in 1994, Rapoon has a CD track
(from ‘Vernal Crossing’) , and the rest is live in Amsterdam stuff. It ranges
from ethnic ambient (0 Yuki Conjugate) , ambient dub (Scorn), reggae dub
(Revolutionary Dub Warriors) to experimental (Main) and noise (God, Pitch
Shifter and Kong) .Quite a diverse mixture, but a nice one too. CD should be
available separately. ..

-THE TORTURER Nr.9. Looking at the content quite a dark, gothic affair, with a
lot of bands I never heard of: Babylon Will Fall, The Faith, Grass Harp, but
also Wumpscut. It’s all in German. ..
